As if he hadn't done so already, Mike Sexton cemented his status as a true poker great shortly before the turn of the year when he became the most recent inductee into the Poker Hall of Fame. Yet despite being a World Series of Poker bracelet holder who has won over $3,800,000 from tournament poker and being a man credited with bringing poker to the masses through his commentary on the World Poker Tour, Mike Sexton's early love was for gymnastics and ballroom dancing. And as GX finds out, he wasn't far off from fighting in the Vietnam War either.

There'll come a point in the next few years when the winners of the major poker tournaments have become so young that their age will become but a side-story of their poker prowess. It was only a few months ago that Joe Cada shot into the poker pantheon with his World Series triumph, yet in light of Harrison Gimbel's victory in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) main event, the 22-year-old Cada can no longer lay claim to being the baby faced assassin he once was; perhaps a wily old pro would now be a better way to describe him.

Controlling the pot size

One of the most important parts of no limit Texas Hold'em is managing to control the size of the pot and make sure this remains under your control and not your opponent's. This can be particularly difficult if you come up against a strong player who has many moves which may not give you the information you seek to require by betting.

Poker is all about information, and the way you're 'supposed' to find out where you are in a hand is by betting two thirds to three quarters of the pot and hopefully take it down. If you get called or raised however, you have to consider your opponent's hand.

What was supposed to be a big day for advocates of casino gambling in the state of Alabama turned out to be bittersweet. The Senate delayed a vote on a bill that would legalize video gambling, but Attorney General Troy King appears ready to intervene with the Task Force on Illegal Gambling.

The Senate was expected to vote on the gambling bill, but the vote was delayed when Senator Kim Benefield failed to show up because her husband was in the hospital. Benefield was one of the senators who's vote was being counted on to pass the bill.

San Diego: America’s Underrated Sports City

The San Diego Chargers may be the NFL's most underrated football team. After a disappointing 2-3 start, the Chargers have proceeded to rattle off 11 straight wins en route to clinching yet another AFC West division title and the number-two seed in the AFC. Yet despite that, and the presence of a Hall of Fame running back (LaDanian Tomlinson) and an NFL MVP candidate at quarterback (Philip Rivers), the Chargers have been largely overlooked by national media. News outlets have preferred to talk about the Indianapolis Colts' and New Orleans Saints' attempts at perfect seasons, or the aging Brett Favre's continual battle with his third NFL team in three seasons post his third or fourth retirement. Meanwhile in San Diego, the Chargers have had a perfect streak in December, several seasons long.

The American Ride

Professional baseball's off season, like every ride found in a theme park, is filled with emotion. There are the ups, the downs, the twists and the turns. From the moment the plastic harness comes down snug over the shoulders, the people strapped in know it's going to be a wild ride that will eventually come to a screeching halt. Today, the Major League Baseball off season has evolved. It's now comparable to something found at Six Flags or Universal Studios. The only difference is that this ride never truly ends.
