The San Diego Chargers may be the NFL's most underrated football team. After a disappointing 2-3 start, the Chargers have proceeded to rattle off 11 straight wins en route to clinching yet another AFC West division title and the number-two seed in the AFC. Yet despite that, and the presence of a Hall of Fame running back (LaDanian Tomlinson) and an NFL MVP candidate at quarterback (Philip Rivers), the Chargers have been largely overlooked by national media. News outlets have preferred to talk about the Indianapolis Colts' and New Orleans Saints' attempts at perfect seasons, or the aging Brett Favre's continual battle with his third NFL team in three seasons post his third or fourth retirement. Meanwhile in San Diego, the Chargers have had a perfect streak in December, several seasons long.
Professional baseball's off season, like every ride found in a theme park, is filled with emotion. There are the ups, the downs, the twists and the turns. From the moment the plastic harness comes down snug over the shoulders, the people strapped in know it's going to be a wild ride that will eventually come to a screeching halt. Today, the Major League Baseball off season has evolved. It's now comparable to something found at Six Flags or Universal Studios. The only difference is that this ride never truly ends.
"Considering the fact that so many state governments - probably between 40 and 50 - don't consider it immoral, I don't think that anyone should. It may be a little immoral because in reality it is a tax on the poor; the lotteries. But having said that, it's now a matter of national policy. Gambling is good."
So did you win or lose? Who covered, your guys or the bad guys? Did you tease the under with the favorite or parlay it with the dog? Did you have heads or tails on the coin toss? What about the number of passing TDs . . . were they more or less than the number of three-pointers LeBron hit on Super Bowl Sunday? Did you get a good price on the MVP, and if so, hopefully you laid some more on the safe bet that he'd thank God?
